Mounjaro will be available in the UK from February 2024. Mounjaro was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in November 2023 for weight loss after initially being approved for people living with type 2 diabetes.

Mounjaro is a weight-loss injection manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. It’s a dual-action medication with tirzepatide as the active ingredient.

Mounjaro supports weight loss by mimicking two hormones in the body: GLP-1 and GIP. These hormones lower hunger by communicating with the brain’s appetite control centre, the hypothalamus.

Research suggests Mounjaro can support average weight loss of up to 26% after one year.

Is Mounjaro available on the NHS?

Mounjaro will eventually be available in the NHS in England. However, it’s likely that Mounjaro will initially only be available via private pharmacies and weight-loss programmes like Second Nature before being made available in the NHS.

To get a Mounjaro prescription from your GP, you’ll likely need to be referred to a specialist weight management service in your local area that prescribes Mounjaro alongside a lifestyle intervention.

How much does Mounjaro cost in the UK?

To purchase Mounjaro and the injectable pens required for four weeks of treatment will start from £229 with Second Nature, rising to up to £299 for the higher doses.

The cost of Mounjaro from other pharmacies and weight-loss programmes in the UK will likely vary from £200 – £350 a month.

To purchase a prescription for Mounjaro via the NHS in England, you’ll only need to pay the base fee for a prescription of £9.95.

Can I buy Mounjaro online?

You’ll be able to buy Mounjaro online from weight-loss programmes like Second Nature, and other registered online pharmacies.

Ensure that the pharmacy is legitimate and regulated. You can check if the pharmacy is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), licensed by the NHS to provide prescriptions, and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

Companies like Second Nature will use a prescribing partner to provide the medication, and their information will be easily accessible on purchase.

To buy Mounjaro online, you’ll need to complete a clinical consultation to ensure you meet the strict eligibility criteria for the medication.

Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes

Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?

For peace of mind.

Second Nature has worked with the NHS for over 6 years providing weight-loss programmes across the UK.

Whilst our Wegovy and Mounjaro weight-loss programmes are private and not currently used by the NHS, we’ve applied the same high standards of scientific evidence, patient safety, and data security, as those required by our NHS partnerships.

We hope that our 6+ years of working will the NHS and building a track record of trust and effective weight-loss results will give you peace of mind to give us a try.
