Juniper and Second Nature are weight-loss programmes offering weight-loss injections, like Wegovy (semaglutide), alongside a digital lifestyle intervention.
Second Nature also offers a weight-loss programme without semaglutide, and you can find more about this programme here.
If you’re looking for a weight-loss programme, we’ll be biased and recommend that you choose Second Nature over Juniper.
The main difference between the two programmes is experience. Second Nature has been delivering weight-loss services in the UK for the NHS since 2017; Second Nature was the first digital weight-loss programme to be commissioned by the NHS.
Furthermore, in 2022, research published in the BMJ demonstrated that Second Nature was more than twice as effective as four other well-known weight-loss programmes in the UK.
This data is in addition to over seven years of clinical data showcasing the impact of the Second Nature programme on weight loss and type 2 diabetes. For a complete outline of our clinical data, click here.

Our work in the NHS is one of the reasons Second Nature continues to grow as a company as it continues to build more diverse partnerships in the field of healthcare.
In comparison, Juniper is a new organisation in the UK after originating in Australia as a sub-brand of the company Eucalyptus.
Eucalyptus originates from Australia and has expanded its operations to the UK and Germany. They have three other brands focusing on men’s health (pilot), women’s fertility (kin), and dermatology (Software).
However, there are many similarities between the two programmes, which we’ve summarised below.
The three main similarities between Juniper and Second Nature
- Nutrition and a sustainable approach to weight loss: Second Nature and Juniper take a sustainable approach to healthy eating and weight loss. They use high-quality research to develop evidence-based content that puts the individual at the heart of their approach.
- Customer service and pharmacy partnerships: Both programmes have responsive customer service, and are partnered with a pharmacy to deliver the programme and ensure the clinical safety of all patients.
- Health coaches and nutritionists: Both programmes utilise the expertise of registered nutritionists or dietitians as health coaches to provide personalised support.
Additionally, there are several key differences between the two programmes that go beyond the level of experience that we’ve described above. These are summarised below.
The three main differences between Juniper and Second Nature
1) Second Nature is NHS-trusted and NICE-approved
Second Nature has been trusted by the NHS since 2017. We’ve delivered programmes for the NHS in type 2 diabetes management, diabetes prevention, and weight management.
The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recently announced that Wegovy would be available via digital weight management services provided by Second Nature and three other companies supporting the NHS.
This approval recognises the high level of patient care and support that Second Nature has provided our members in the past.
In comparison, Juniper is new to the UK market and has no affiliations with the NHS or trusted healthcare providers in the UK. (This isn’t to say Juniper won’t continue to grow and develop these partnerships in the future.)
2) Second Nature is clinically proven
Second Nature has over seven years of published clinical data outlining its effectiveness.
Our programme is proven to support individuals to lose weight; individuals on our programme lose an average of over 6kg after 12 months.
Additionally, our programme is proven to support individuals living with type 2 diabetes to lower their blood sugar levels.
So much so that our original pilot in Portsmouth with the NHS showed that 40% of patients lowered their HbA1c (average blood sugar levels) below the diagnostic threshold for type 2 diabetes. Putting them on the path to potential remission in the future.
You can find all of Second Nature’s published data here.
In comparison, Juniper doesn’t currently have any published data in medical journals showcasing the impact of their programme on weight loss, blood sugar control, or other health markers.
However, it’s likely this will change in the future as the company grows and collects more data.
3) Cost and Trustpilot reviews
- The total monthly cost of the Second Nature programme, including GLP-1 medication is £229
- The total monthly cost of the Juniper programme, including GLP-1 medication is £225
- Second Nature’s current Trustpilot score based on 6,270 reviews is 4.8, and are rated as ‘Excellent’
- Juniper’s current Trustpilot score based on 97 reviews is 3.3, and are rated as ‘Average’

We live in a paradoxical time where we have more options than ever to help us lose weight and achieve a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, obesity and chronic disease rates worldwide continue to rise.
There’s a lot we don’t know about treating obesity and chronic disease, but we do know there won’t be a global solution for everyone.
Second Nature’s and Juniper’s programmes are very similar in style and tone, and you might be successful on either programme as both companies use high-quality evidence-based practices to support their members.
However, you might find more peace of mind knowing that Second Nature’s programme has been trusted by the NHS since 2017 and recently obtained NICE approval for future weight management programmes that will also provide Wegovy.
