You can switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro, but they’re not interchangeable, which means they can’t be used simultaneously.
Additionally, if you replaced Wegovy with Mounjaro, you’d need to start at the lowest dose of Mounjaro and gradually titrate up to the higher doses.
For example, if you’re on 2.4 mg of Wegovy (the highest dose) and switched to Mounjaro with Second Nature, you’d have to start on the lowest dose of Mounjaro, 2.5 mg.
This drop in dosing is due to Mounjaro’s strict treatment protocol on Second Nature. Mounjaro is a new medication in the UK, and our clinical team will only approve prescriptions for individuals starting at a dose of 2.5 mg.
After being on a higher dose of Wegovy, dropping to the lowest dose of Mounjaro may be challenging. It’s possible your appetite might change during this transition as your body adjusts to the new medication.
Still, with the support and expertise of our registered nutritionists and clinicians, they were able to make this transition safely and effectively.
Do you lose more weight on Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Data from randomised controlled trials suggests that Mounjaro leads to more average weight loss than Wegovy.
One study found that Mounjaro supported an average weight loss of nearly 25% after one year. If you weighed 100 kg, that would be a weight loss of 25 kg.
In comparison, research on Wegovy suggests it supports an average weight loss of around 16% after one year, 9% less than Mounjaro.
Additionally, research suggests the percentage of participants on Mounjaro achieving more than 10% weight loss is considerably higher than Wegovy.
Achieving over 10% weight loss is associated with clinically significant reductions in risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
A randomised controlled trial in 670 people showed that 92% of participants on Mounjaro achieved more than 10% weight loss, with 84% achieving more than 15%.
In comparison, a randomised controlled trial in 1,961 people showed that 69% of participants on Wegovy achieved more than 10% weight loss, with 50% achieving more than 15%.
So, research suggests that Mounjaro leads to more average weight loss than Wegovy and may support more people achieving clinically significant weight loss of over 10%.
Switching from Wegovy to Mounjaro on Second Nature
Second Nature has launched a medication-supported weight-loss programme for people who need the extra help to lose weight that Mounjaro and other weight-loss injections can provide.
Generally, we’d recommend trying our weight-loss programme before applying for a weight-loss injection.
Not only is it cheaper (~£33 a month compared to ~£229), it may be more sustainable to focus on habits and behaviours without the medication.
However, if you’ve tried every diet and weight-loss programme under the sun and, despite your best efforts over many years, you still can’t find the solution to maintain your weight loss and lower your cravings. Our medication programme may be for you.
Our medication-supported programme offers:
- Peace of mind that we have over 7 years of experience delivering weight-loss services in the UK and adhere to the highest standards of clinical safety
- 1-to-1 support from a registered nutritionist or dietitian
- A guaranteed ongoing prescription for either Mounjaro or Wegovy if you’re approved after a consultation with our clinical team
