You can get Saxenda on the NHS via a specialist tier 3 weight management service, which your GP can refer you to if you’re eligible.

However, it’s not recommended that GPs in the UK prescribe Saxenda directly. Instead, they’re advised to refer patients to a tier 3 weight management service, where the prescription may be given.

A tier 3 weight management service is a specialised programme designed for adults with severe and complex obesity who have been struggling to lose weight for an extended period of time. These programmes typically last 12-18 months.

Second Nature currently doesn’t provide Saxenda, but we do provide Wegovy and Mounjaro as part of our Wegovy weight-loss programme and Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

Research has shown that both of these newer medications lead to higher levels of weight loss with fewer side effects.

To understand if you’re eligible for Wegovy or Mounjaro, you’ll first need to complete our health quiz—or feel free to read on for more about Saxenda in the NHS.

How do I get Saxenda on the NHS?

To get Saxenda on the NHS, you need a referral to a tier 3 weight management service in the UK, and meet some of the following:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a BMI of 40 or over without any other health conditions
  • Have a BMI of 35 or over with one or more obesity-related health conditions,
  • such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have tried other weight loss treatments, such as diet and exercise, without success
  • Be committed to making lifestyle changes to support weight loss
  • Be referred by a GP or healthcare professional

Can you get Saxenda without a prescription?

You can only get Saxenda with a prescription, but you don’t need to receive this from your GP or via a tier 3 weight management service.

You can purchase Saxenda from registered pharmacies by completing an online form confirming your eligibility.

Should I buy Saxenda?

Deciding to start a new medication is a highly personal choice. So, ultimately, it depends on whether you believe it’s the best decision for your health going forward.

Saxenda can support weight loss of around 5-7% alongside lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.

However, research has shown that newer GLP-1 medications, like Wegovy, can lead to more significant weight loss with fewer side effects.

The potential for Wegovy to support significant weight loss is why Second Nature has launched a medication-supported programme this year, where you can purchase a Wegovy prescription alongside our award-winning weight-loss programme.

However, all medications come with risks and rewards, and not everyone is suitable for Wegovy. Saxenda may be a better choice for you.

Why choose Second Nature?

Weight-loss injections are most effective when combined with a healthier lifestyle. They can help kickstart weight loss while you commit to developing healthier habits.

Mounjaro and other weight loss injections, like Ozempic and Wegovy, can allow you to make lifestyle changes to support long-term weight loss.

These medications can help silence food-related thoughts and give you a boost of confidence with more immediate weight-loss results.

They can also buy you the time and headspace to understand why your body may have struggled to lose weight and build new long-term healthy habits.

The core focus of our medication programmes is to calm down the feeling of food noise, lower your cravings, and allow you to build healthier habits to keep the weight off for good.

The ultimate goal is to make losing weight feel second nature.

Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes

Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?

For peace of mind.

Second Nature has worked with the NHS for over 6 years providing weight-loss programmes across the UK.

Whilst our Wegovy and Mounjaro weight-loss programmes are private and not currently used by the NHS, we’ve built the programmes with a focus on scientific evidence, patient safety, and data security.

We hope that our 6+ years of working with the NHS and building a track record of effective weight-loss results will give you peace of mind to give us a try.
