However, it’s not recommended that GPs in the UK prescribe Saxenda directly. Instead, they’re advised to refer patients to a tier 3 weight management service, where the prescription may be given.
A Tier 3 weight management service is a specialised programme designed for adults with severe and complex obesity who have been struggling to lose weight for an extended period of time. These programmes typically last 12-18 months.

How do you qualify for a Saxenda prescription?
To receive a Saxenda prescription from a tier 3 weight management service in the UK, here are some of the criteria you need to meet:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Have a BMI of 40 or over without any other health conditions
- Have a BMI of 35 or over with one or more obesity-related health conditions,
- such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea
- Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have tried other weight loss treatments, such as diet and exercise, without success
- Be committed to making lifestyle changes to support weight loss
- Be referred by a GP or healthcare professional
Can you get Saxenda without a prescription?
You can only get Saxenda with a prescription, but you don’t need to receive this from your GP or via a tier 3 weight management service.
You can purchase Saxenda from registered pharmacies by completing an online form confirming your eligibility.
Should I buy Saxenda?
