You can be prescribed Saxenda on the NHS via a specialist tier 3 weight management service, which you can be referred to via your GP.

However, it’s not recommended for GPs in the UK to prescribe Saxenda directly. Instead, they’re advised to refer patients to a tier 3 weight management service where the prescription may be given.

A Tier 3 weight management service is a specialised programme designed for adults with severe and complex obesity who have been struggling to lose weight for an extended period of time. These programmes typically last 12-18 months.

How do you qualify for a Saxenda prescription?

To receive a Saxenda prescription from a tier 3 weight management service in the UK, here are some of the criteria you need to meet:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have a BMI of 40 or over without any other health conditions
  • Have a BMI of 35 or over with one or more obesity-related health conditions,
  • such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have tried other weight loss treatments, such as diet and exercise, without success
  • Be committed to making lifestyle changes to support weight loss
  • Be referred by a GP or healthcare professional

Can you get Saxenda without a prescription?

You can only get Saxenda with a prescription, but you don’t need to receive this from your GP or via a tier 3 weight management service.

You can purchase Saxenda from registered pharmacies by completing an online form confirming your eligibility.

Should I buy Saxenda?

Deciding to start a new medication is a highly personal choice. So, ultimately, it depends on whether you believe it’s the best decision for your health going forward.

Saxenda can support weight loss of around 5-7% alongside lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.

However, research has shown that newer GLP-1 medications, like Wegovy, can lead to more significant weight loss with fewer side effects.

The potential for Wegovy to support significant weight loss is why Second Nature has launched a medication-supported programme this year, where you can purchase a Wegovy prescription alongside our award-winning weight-loss programme.

However, all medications come with risks and rewards, and not everyone is suitable for Wegovy. Saxenda may be a better choice for you.

Why choose Second Nature?

If you’ve made the decision to try a semaglutide prescription (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature’s medication-assisted programme over others?

For peace of mind.

Second Nature is the only UK company that provides private weight-loss injections and is also trusted by the NHS to provide weight-loss services.

The NHS has used Second Nature for over 6 years, and we ensure we abide by the highest levels of data security and patient safety.

With that, we believe there comes a level of authenticity and peace of mind that other providers cannot match (e.g. Boots, Superdrug, Juniper, Numan, Manual, etc.).

If you want to go with a company with a proven track record of providing the most effective digital weight-loss programme to the NHS (as proven in our official scientific publications in the British Medical Journal, and others), then give us a go.

Second Nature’s medication-supported programme

Second Nature’s medication-supported programme combines our award-winning weight-loss programme with the GLP-1, semaglutide, to help you lose weight and keep it off for good.
