MEDIWEIGHT™ is a medically supervised, personalised weight loss plan. The goal of the programme is to develop habits that you can keep in the long term.
The focus is on diet, but the programme includes other aspects such as body contouring treatments, nutrition education, psychological support, and maintenance support.

1) Slimming
Slimming has 3 different steps. You will lose most of the weight in the 1st step of slimming. The 2nd and 3rd step reintroduce healthy foods.
2) Stabilisation
The stabilisation stage also has 3 steps and usually lasts 8 weeks. This stage also introduces healthy food.
3) Maintenance
This stage aims at trying to help you maintain your new weight and shape. This stage includes nutrition education and support to try and make any lifestyle changes you make long term. The maintenance stage usually lasts for 2 years.
What does the MEDIWEIGHT™ journey look like?
The MEDIWEIGHT™ journey begins with an initial consultation with a doctor and a tour of the clinic. The initial consultation will include blood tests, body composition analysis (measurements and weigh-ins), and an introduction to the clinic.
You will need to attend the clinic once each week, for the ultrasound and body contouring treatments (that last around 75 minutes) and a review with your MEDIWEIGHT™ therapist.
The ultrasound supposedly breaks down ‘diet-resistant’ fat, whereas the body contouring treatments are supposed to help with lymphatic drainage. However, the clinic doesn’t supply any scientific clinical evidence to back up these claims.
Every 4-5 weeks you will have a medical review by a doctor. On top of this, questionnaires that you fill in at the beginning of the programme are used to assess whether you would benefit from psychological assessment or counselling. If so, the doctor will refer you to a psychologist, at an additional fee.
The usual rate of private psychologists is between £100 – £180 for a 50-minute session, which would be added on top of the programme.
What will I be eating?
You get instructed to eat certain foods and drinks, which are all chosen as they’re high in protein and low in calories. The diet appears to be ketogenic and calorie-controlled.
A ketogenic (keto) diet eliminates carbs almost entirely and focuses on increasing intake of fat. By doing this, the body is deprived of its primary fuel source, glucose. The body then creates new metabolic pathways and starts to function using fatty acids from fat stores and dietary fat intake. Over time, ketones which are produced from the breakdown of fat will start to be used by the brain for energy instead of glucose. This process is called ketosis.
While this may sound ideal, the keto diet can be challenging to follow effectively in the long term. It’s much more restrictive and one ‘slip up’ will take you out of ketosis temporarily.
You also get advice on what fruits and vegetables are permitted and how much of each you should be eating at each stage.
You can cook your own real food or, alternatively, they offer meal replacement shakes and bars. Some MEDIWEIGHT™ recipes are provided if you decide to cook your meals.
Will I be taking supplements?
Yes, you get prescribed supplements with various vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. This is because the diet is a variation of the keto diet.
Alternative option
MEDIWEIGHT™ provides a personalised and monitored service to help you lose weight, but at a huge expense. If you’re looking to change your lifestyle, adopt healthy habits, and lose some weight, consider the Second Nature programme as a much more affordable alternative.
The challenge with weekly consultations is you have to take a few hours out of your day and there are travel expenses, on top of any fees, associated with face-to-face consultations.
To save time and money, many individuals prefer the convenience of an online programme, like Second Nature.
Second Nature is a digital programme that helps you lose weight and build healthy habits that last. Second Nature combines support from registered nutritionists and dietitians with the convenience of a digital programme.
Many people are more familiar with Weight Watchers or Slimming World, so we created a guide comparing the digital programmes with Second Nature to help you decide what’s best for you.
When you sign up to the Second Nature programme you get:
- Daily support from a registered dietitian or nutritionist health coach
- A digital peer support group
- Habit-change techniques to improve your nutrition, sleep, stress, activity levels, and more
- Hundreds of in-app recipe videos
- Daily educational articles
- Meal planning and journaling tools
- Steps, weight, and habit tracking technology
Second Nature tackles weight loss by focusing on your habits and changing your behaviours. This means that any healthy lifestyle changes you make will be sustainable and last in the long term.

Pricing
MEDIWEIGHT™ is over 30 times more expensive than Second Nature, and that isn’t including the potential added costs of psychologist treatment.
On the Second Nature programme, you receive online, daily support from a health coach who is a dietitian or registered nutritionist. Weekly face-to-face sessions with a dietitian or registered nutritionist in a private clinic can be very expensive (£40-£100/hour).
To compare the prices of visiting a private nutrition clinic with joining the MEDIWEIGHT™ or Second Nature programmes, we have added a column representing this (Weekly Nutritionist).
These prices include any consultation or admin fees.
