After just 3 weeks following the Second Nature programme, Rachel felt this was one of the best things she has ever done. Despite being diagnosed with an under-active thyroid, and trying all kinds of diets, she now knows she can lose weight and achieve her health goals. As well as learning more about nutrition, she has become much more mindful about foods. The bloating, lethargy and headaches have now gone – and so have 11 pounds! 

A bit about you

I’m a wife, mum, daughter, sister, auntie, friend, and self-confessed ‘yo-yo’ dieter. I also run an online ‘wellness inspired’ gifting business (not food related).

Being diagnosed with an under-active thyroid almost gave me an excuse for being overweight. I’ve tried calorie counting, removing the ‘fat content’ from foods, and drank ‘those’ shakes but nothing has given me results quite like Second Nature has. I used to also eat quite mindlessly but that has all changed!

Where my Second Nature journey began; I met a friend for lunch, opting for the skinny latte and reviewing the menu for what l thought was a healthy option. She updated me on a new programme she’d joined via the NHS and had lost 8lbs. I’d never heard of it before but was very interested and, as soon as l got home, my research began.

Those keywords jumped out; long term weight loss, scientifically proven, NHS backed. I loved the idea of learning about the science of nutrition and the psychology of building new habits with the support of a registered nutritionist. I asked myself, “What have I got to lose, apart from bad food habits and hopefully weight loss?”

After downloading the app and logging on, l started reading how the programme worked and I actually couldn’t wait to start!

“It’s one of the best things I have ever done”

I’m only three weeks in and l can honestly say it’s one of the best things l have ever done. As well as learning more than l ever knew about nutrition (and there’s so much more to learn!), I’ve become much more mindful about foods.

The programme helps you keep track of your progress using the app. You’re encouraged to read the daily articles, engage in the group chat, plan ahead, and increase your daily activity. In doing this I have seen and felt the benefits already. I’ve noticed I have increased energy, reduced bloating and lethargy, and those pesky headaches have gone – along with 11 pounds!

I can honestly tell you, I feel like I’m treating myself every day. With the amazing and simple recipes the whole family can enjoy, it’s become an absolute pleasure to cook. It certainly isn’t a ‘diet’ in my eyes – it’s essential information I’ve now implemented in my mindset and lifestyle.

I will never use the ‘under-active’ thyroid as an excuse again…I’m so looking forward to the forthcoming weeks.

Since writing my story, I’ve now reached my goal (after 16weeks) and just love this programme for so many reasons, as I’m sure thousands do.
