You can only be prescribed Ozempic on the NHS in certain circumstances; most notably if you’re living with type 2 diabetes that’s poorly controlled.

Ozempic isn’t available privately in the UK, but you may be able to purchase a private prescription of Wegovy, which contains same drug as Ozempic (semaglutide), if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Wegovy has been approved for treatment of obesity in the UK and is available to purchase privately as part of Second Nature’s Wegovy weight-loss programme.

In Feb 2024, the new weight-loss drug called Mounjaro was launched and this is available to buy as part of Second Nature’s Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

How do you qualify for an NHS Ozempic prescription?

To receive an Ozempic prescription from your GP in the UK, here are some of the criteria you need to meet:

  • Have poorly controlled type 2 diabetes
  • Treatment with metformin is considered inappropriate
  • Have a BMI of 30 or over
  • Have no diagnosis or family history of thyroid cancer
  • Have no diagnosis or family history of pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis

Is Ozempic approved for weight loss in the UK?

No, Ozempic is only approved for individuals living with type 2 diabetes to help manage their blood sugar levels.

Under new regulations, the use of Ozempic for weight loss alone is no longer allowed in the UK.

Is it safe to order prescriptions online?

All online prescribers have to follow strict regulations in the UK and other countries to provide medications for delivery.

All pharmacies must be registered with their national bodies and follow guidelines on safe and appropriate prescriptions for medication.

However, illegal websites do operate beyond these regulations; here are some tips to ensure you’re buying prescription medicines from reliable sources:

  • If you’re purchasing your medication through a prescriber’s partner, like Second Nature, make sure the prescribing pharmacy information is provided
  • Be wary of online pharmacies that offer prescription drugs without a prescription or at a significantly lower price than other pharmacies
  • Check if the online pharmacy is licensed and located in the United Kingdom
  • Make sure that the online pharmacy has a licensed pharmacist available to answer your questions

Should I buy Ozempic?

Weight-loss injections like Ozempic are designed as additional tools for healthy lifestyle change and shouldn’t be considered as lifelong medications.

Instead, they should be used to help you kickstart your weight-loss journey whilst you focus on building new, healthy habits.

Consider the use of antidepressants for people living with depression. They’re not designed to cure the condition. Instead, they’re designed to allow room for therapy to treat the condition’s underlying cause.

Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro are similar. These medications can help silence food-related thoughts and also give you a boost of confidence with more immediate weight-loss results.

This helps to buy you the time and headspace to understand why your body may have struggled to lose weight previously, and to build new long-term healthy habits.

The core focus of our medication programmes are to calm down the feeling of food noise, lower your cravings, and to allow you to build healthier habits to keep the weight off for good.

The ultimate goal is to make losing weight feel second nature.

Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes

Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?

For peace of mind.

Second Nature has worked with the NHS for over 6 years providing weight-loss programmes across the UK.

Whilst our Wegovy and Mounjaro weight-loss programmes are private and not currently used by the NHS, we’ve built the programmes with a focus on scientific evidence, patient safety, and data security.

We hope that our 6+ years of working with the NHS and building a track record of effective weight-loss results will give you peace of mind to give us a try.
